The first Golden Ellipse watch has been a fashion benchmark for Patek Philippe watches since its release in 1968, and in the brand's words, the "mission" of this series is to be responsible for purity and beauty. In 2024, the Golden Ellipse collection welcomed a new chain watch chain style.
In 1968, Patek Philippe launched the first generation Golden Ellipse watch with a gold case paired with a deep blue dial, equipped with a black leather strap or gold bracelet. Afterwards, the Golden Ellipse series successively launched watch models made of different precious metal materials such as platinum and rose gold. The shape of the watch cases has changed in some styles, but overall they are mainly oval shaped.
In 2008, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the birth of the Golden Ellipse series, Patek Philippe launched a platinum version of the Golden Ellipse wristwatch Ref. 5738P-001, paired with a blue dial and a watch case that returned to its original style. In 2018, the Golden Ellipse series celebrated its 50th anniversary, with Patek Philippe releasing a rose gold wristwatch Ref. 5738R-001 equipped with a ebony black dial, as well as a platinum 5738/51G-001 with a rare handcrafted engraved dial.
